Wachira bags maiden home win in Nanyuki

David Wachira registered a brilliant 37 stableford points to pick up the overall title also his maiden win at home during Nomadic golf series third leg at Nanyuki Sports Club course in Laikipia County.

The home player opened with a fine score of 20 stableford points with a final round score of 17 stableford points enroute to his victory.

Wachira, playing off handicap 12, was the first qualifier of the third leg in the series dubbed, "The Road to Cape Town".

Presented by Soames Hotel - Nanyuki, Nimmoh's Homestays, Kenya Wildlife Services, Drone Visions, Kenya Forest Services, Angiri's Camp and Jays Excite Foundation.

Playing to regulation, he was the only player on the course to play to his handicap.

As others suffered on and off the overgrown fairways due to heavy rain that have been pounding the region.

Not being greedy or ambitious with his shots, taking a shot at a time, he played on regulation throughout his round of 18 and paid off handsomely with the win.

Icing it with single putts which saw his flight mate and eventual Men winner Charles Rob quip that he was on fire.

Chalking several pars after missing out on a couple of birdies but drained a four foot birdie on the 18th to rapturous applause from the watching gallery.

On his win, David said, "I was late on starting off in the last second last flight and was aware of the risks of heading into the rough thus chose to manage my game and take a shot at a time."

"After playing for so long on this course without any overall win, it has finally come, a big win and in a bigger way." he added.

Scratch golfer Rob combined 17 and 15 for a total of 35 stableford points to lift the Men winner prize.

Tee Toller Francis Nabuk playing off handicap 25, took the Men winner prize on a score of 33 stableford points ahead of Men winner third, handicap 5, Gabriel Miungi with 32(16+16) stableford points.

Leading the prize hunt in the ladies category was Muthoni Mwangi on a score of 29(13+16) stableford points.

Handicap 20, Purity Githui was Lady winner second on a score of 28(15+13) stableford points and Lady winner third, Syonzi Mutua with 27(15+12) stableford points.

In the nines, Engineer Phillip Ngaru claimed the First nine with 19 stableford points while Richard Kabugi was Second nine winner with 17 stableford points.

Youngster Shasha Kavithe emerged as Junior winner with 19 stableford points.

Five twos were registered by Daniel Weru on the third hole, Engineer Phillip Ngaru on the ninth hole, Anthony Rukwaro on the third hole.

The rest were Francis Nabuk on the third and David Wahira on the 18th hole with each winning five golf balls.

At hilly Nakuru Golf Club, hosted Kengen golf tournament which Micah Thuo returned a sterling score of 44 stableford points to star ahead of overall winner second Joel Ayonga who posted 40 stableford points.

After a stellar performance in Ronald Marshal Memorial Match-play Championship at neighboring Njoro Country, former Captain and greenkeeper, Luther Kamau was in his element carding 40 stableford points to clinch overall winner third prize.

Donning the Ladies gong was Nancy Kimemia on a score of 36 stableford points while Peter Gathogo playing off handicap 16, bagged Junior winner prize on a superb score of 35 stableford points.
