Karuga bids KGU Chairman in Style at Vet Lab as Kagicha rules Railways

Daniel Karuga celebrated the Kenya Golf Union (KGU) in style after being crowned the overall winner at Vet Lab Sports Club in Nairobi City on Saturday.

Playing off handicap 19 Karuga returned an excellent count back score of 42 stable ford points to take the overall title in the KGU Chairman's 2023 Prize and record his maiden victory in the season.

"I trained a lot for this event which improved my swings and most of my putting was precise. I thank the organizers and sponsors for this wonderful day where there was also much fun in the course with my playing partners and look forward to more wins," said Karuga.

The event jointly sponsored by NCBA, Tononoka Group, Roamtech, Johnnie Walker, Madison Insurance, Unity Homes and Farmers Choice was organized by KGU to celebrate the Union's outgoing Chairman Njani Ndiritu.

It featured a series of tournaments played throughout the week from last Monday culminating in the main event on Friday 12th and Saturday 13th.

Karuga had tied with handicap 24 Fredrick Wagura who was the Men winner while Kandadi Reddy playing off handicap 24 on 38 points and handicap 22 Henry D'souza with 38 points were the Men runners up and third placed winners respectively.

Grace Waiganjo playing off handicap 26 won the lady's title with 37 points beating handicap 26 Jane Wokabi to the runners up slot on a three points difference and handicap 17 Dorcas Mukabi sat third with 33 points.

The best KGU Executive winner was handicap 17 David Ndung'u with 33 points and the Best Chairman's prize was won on 34 points by handicap 21 Lucas Maranga.

Friday men winner's prize on 42 points went to handicap 28 Mwangi Kariuki while the same for the Lady was claimed by handicap 25 Margaret Wairumu who had a score of 34 points and Samuel Njoroge was the best professional with 70 gross.

Ndiritu thanked the members for giving him tremendous support during his tenure and sponsors for making the event successful and urged them to accord the same for the incoming Chairman.

KGU Vice Chairman and Tournament Director Philip Ochola said Ndiritu has been a dedicated member of the Union since 2016, starting as an executive and rising through the ranks to serve as the treasurer of the Union before being elected as the Chairman and also served as the chairman of the Golf Talent.

He said that Ndiritu's term as KGU Chairman will end on May 26th, 2023, after the Union's annual General meeting (AGM) that will be held at Muthaiga Golf Club.

At the Kenya Railways Golf Club Course on the same day, handicap 23 Joseph Kagicha carded 40 points to emerge the overall winner of the 2023 KCB golf tournament while James Karuga playing off handicap 12 was the Men winner on 37 points.

Perpetual Wanjiru playing off handicap 22 carded 30 points to win the Lady's title with handicap 27 Martin Njuguna taking the Guest prize after also returning 30 points .

The Staff prize was won by handicap 12 Ibrahim Lande with 30 points and handicap 8 Thacker Mitansh went home with the Junior prize after carding 25 points.

The winning team prize was won by handicap 12 Ibrahim lande (30points), handicap 3 Fidelis Kimanzi (29points), handicap 25 Azu Ogola (23points) and handicap 9 Joseph Kagicha (40points).

The Runners team were handicap 12 Yego Geoffrey (31points), handicap 9 Morgan Chirchir (28points), handicap 8 Kipyator Franklin (35points) and handicap 18 Cheboi Moses (28points).

And at the Machakos Golf club course also in the same day, Nicholas Musau playing off handicap 20 returned and excellent score of 45 points to emerge the overall winner of the 2023 Isuzu Golf tournament and handicap 24 Boniface Chuma was the runners up on a count back score of 41 points after tying on the same score with handicap 13 Julius Kioko who was third placed.

Alice Abere playing off handicap 31 won the Lady's title on 38 points beating her closest rival handicap 32 Milkah Wanjiru to the runners up slot by a single slot.

The guest prize was scooped by handicap 5 Alex Mutia who returned a score of 36 points and handicap 23 Benrad Nyangechi settled for the runners up slot with 35 points.

There was also the high handicappers prize where handicap 34 D.K.Mulli survived on a count back score of 39 points to claim the winning prize from handicap 32 Felix Kiamba who was the runners up.
