Man United manager Louis van Gaal confirms Angel Di Maria absence

Ruled out: Di Maria limped off in the first half

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has immediately ruled Angel Di Maria out of United's midweek fixture against Stoke City.

The £59.7million Argentine limped out of the Red Devils' 3-0 win over Hull City at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon, after only 14 minutes.

Di Maria appeared to pick up a hamstring injury, and van Gaal declared after the final whistle that his withdrawal was not merely a precautionary measure.

"He did not come off as a precaution - he is out of Tuesday's game against Stoke," declared van Gaal. "It's too close.

"But we will have to wait and see how bad it is. We will know more tomorrow."

The Dutchman had seen United continue their assault on the Champions League places with a comfortable 3-0 win over Steve Bruce's side, thanks to goals from Chris Smalling, Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie.

Rooney himself limped off at the final whistle, but according to van Gaal will be fine to play against the Potters on Tuesday evening.

And the United boss was delighted with his sides overall performance against Hull, hailing it as their most dominant showing of the season.

"It's the first match we've dominated from the first minute to the last in a way that I like," added van Gaal.

"I was very pleased."
