Meru Senator Mithika Linturi has launched his manifesto, promising to economically empower residents.
Senator Linturi in spelling out his vision for water, agriculture, health and other sectors, argued that residents had not experienced the fruits of 10 years of devolution.
Linturi said he will use the billions allocated to the county from the National Treasury and the county’s own revenue to economically empower residents, who will also receive tenders to undertake various contracts.
By awarding tenders to women, youth, People Living with Disabilities (PLWDs) and other groups, Linturi said he would ensure local populations benefit from devolution.
Revamp health sector
“I want the funds for Meru to benefit the residents. I want to create 2, 250 new millionaires in this county,” he said.
“My promise for Meru is that all these problems we have, I want to work hard and focus on eliminating them,” Linturi said at the launch in a Meru hotel on Sunday.
Linturi also promised to revamp the health sector in the county.
“My priority is health because a sick population cannot be productive. A sick person cannot work and is dependent on others. So, my number one priority is to improve health services,” said Linturi.
He said he will ensure medical supplies are efficient to ensure patients receive proper treatment and that the health management system was working.
“I want to have a government that listens to the people’s needs. I want to assure you that I will work to economically empower you,” he said.
