Office of the President imposter pockets millions in fake Jubilee party tender

 Grace Mwarania Waigumu

Police are holding a woman who has allegedly been conning people millions of shillings while masquerading as an employee at the president’s office.

Grace Mwarania Waigumu has reportedly defrauded victims by pretending that she had won tenders to supply campaign materials to the Jubilee party.

Posing as an official based at Office of the President (OP) in Harambee House, police say Mwarania duped her victims to give her money to purchase materials, and promised to refund the cash on being paid.

According to police, she made some of her victims believe that their money will be returned with interest. She has been accused that on diverse dates, she took Sh23.9 million from Abdiwahab Adan Ibrahim, while Brian Manyara Ngumi was conned Sh1.9 million.

She is also accused of John Kiama Mbugua out of Sh1 million. The three told officers at the Central Police Station that they were made to believe the funds were for purchasing campaign T-shirts, bags, caps and wristbands.

Mwarania allegedly bragged that she had another tender to supply mattresses and foodstuff to the needy. After receiving cash, she reportedly goes underground before surfacing to con even more people.

“She has been trailed and arrested and is now being interrogated. It was established that she is an impostor,” Parklands DCIO David Chebii said.

According to the detective, Mwarania conned an engineer out of Sh10 million, while another woman reportedly lost Sh800,000 to the suspect whose bank accounts have been frozen. Police have also placed a caveat on her property and impounded the Land Cruiser she was driving.

“We are appealing to anyone who might have been conned to by the woman to come out and make a formal complaint,” added Chebii.
