Traders along the busy Kangundo Road in Ruai ward want the roads authority to allow them to use the road reserve longer.
Area MCA and Deputy Speaker Nairobi County Assembly John Kamangu has written to Kenya National Highway Authority (Kenha) Director General Eng Peter Mundinia pleading for extension of deadline for kicking them out.
Kenha gave notice to traders in 2016 to vacate the space intended for road expansion to reduce traffic in Ruai and its environs. Kamangu said the county has identified land to put up a market but was not able to relocate traders within the set time.
“We have budgeted for our traders operating along Kangundo Road for their market this year. We have identified the market. I therefore request you kindly to give them some time as we make arrangements for their removal without much pressure and resources (sic),” Kamangu appealed in the letter.
He promised: “I personally will be working with your office to ensure their departure from the roadside and relocate them accordingly.”
Ruai ward has no developed market and the ones from Njiru ward, Ruai shopping centre and Kamulu are on road reserves.
