Why father forgave 'wife snatcher son'

 Lawrence Sanare and Rebekah O'Brien

Rebekah told The Sun newspaper that Rempesa “was begging me to start a relationship with him. I didn’t want to because he was already married, but he wore me down. Then, on the night before he left, we slept together in his hotel. It was lovely. When he invited me to live with him I was really worried about his wife and asked if she even knew he had asked me over.”

Rebekah added: “Then I spoke to Joyce on the phone and she said they were effectively divorced and no longer slept together.”

That was how she came to Kenya only to fall in love with the son when their affair hit the rocks.

Lawrence Sanare has since sought his father’s forgiveness after snatching his lover.

“I am the one who organised the meeting and Mzee invited my uncles.

They all accepted to forgive me having understood my love for Rebekah. They gave me their blessings and told me to follow my heart but they’re unable to support my trip abroad.”

As required by tradition, Sanare offered a goat that was slaughtered for the elders before he apologised to his father. About his father, he says that, “We are now in good terms. He resorted to a low-profile life in Kisamis while I stay with my aunt in Kibuka. Life has not been easy since my mother died but we are coping.”

The Nairobian tried reaching out to Sanare’s father but he was reluctant to be drawn into the drama.
