Ten members of Bunge la Mwananchi were arrested in the city for holding an unlawful assembly in the city centre.
They were arrested on June 27 outside the National Archives in the evening and taken to Central Police Station.
An officer said the officials were booked for treason and holding an unlawful assembly. Those held included John Gitonga Kihanya, Lilian Chepchumba Sang, Benjamin Mzevu, Jonathan Tito Rukindo, Esther Chebet Ngeno, Winfred Mbithe Ndome, Livingstone Omari Amgoza, Kevin Ochieng Odhiambo and Caroline Wanja Kuria.
One of the group’s officials Nicholas David Kimanzi said: “A senior officer beat me up and I have since sought medical attention over the incident.
I had gone to the station to seek the release of my colleagues when the drama started.”
Police recently banned the group’s meetings in the city citing security threats and disrupting of businesses.
