Arresting beauty: Is she Kenya’s sexiest cop?

Sophia Mohammed says she turns down about 10 to 15 men every day, but she loves the Lord

Nairobians hate police officers, so much that many will take to their heels at the sight of an officer.

But you may want to think twice before bolting if the officer is Sophia Mohammed. The first thing that strikes you when you meet her is her stunning beauty — a beauty that even a police uniform cannot contain.

Her smile is a warm flash of evenly-placed, pearly white teeth. It’s a welcoming smile you’d least expect from an afande.

Sophia is an Administration Police Officer attached to a local bank along Thika Road. Her photos have been doing the rounds on social media, winning her the ‘sexiest cop’ accolade. She says she gets a lot of unsolicited advice from admirers wishing she would drop the police uniform and take up modelling instead.

Then there are allegations that the son of a popular and rich politician married her following the social media frenzy about her looks.

She has however denied the claims. “Everything that has been said is not true. In fact, we’re at the final stage in the plan of our wedding with my sweetheart. It’s a few months away, and I love him so much,” Sophia told The Nairobian without delving much about her lover.

“Some people claim that I bleached my skin, but as you can see, everything about me is natural,” she said with a smile. But just how did she get into the limelight and set social media on fire? She remembers the events of that day vividly.

“I was heading to my workplace when we found this lorry blocking the road. We got engaged with the matter and as we waited to have the road cleared, I removed my phone and accidentally clicked the camera button. The picture wasn’t that bad, so I decided to share it on Facebook as I wished my friends a good day. What followed shocked me. I received tens of calls later in the day informing me that my picture was trending,” she explained.

Sophia was born and raised in Mombasa. It is here that she wished to become a cop. But that did not come on a silver platter.

“I tried to join Kenya Defence Forces in 2007 but did not qualify. Then I went for Administration Police recruitment in 2008 and was successful,” she revealed. She adds that, “Since my childhood, I always wanted to become a policewoman because I used to imagine how difficult it must be for women to file reports at police stations. I was concerned that their cases were probably not being handled well. My wish was to be in a position to help women overcome such challenges and as fate would have it, I got the opportunity to offer that service.”

With such beauty, she attracts hundreds of men who hit on her on a daily basis. But Sophie says she has learnt the art of dealing with mafisi without sounding harsh. She revealed that she turns down between 10 to15 mafisi daily.

She reveals that some of the funniest pickup lines men use on her include: Naomba unishike, nifanye makosa gani unishike etc.

The mother of one loves reading the Bible and visiting children’s homes when not on duty. Sophia says she loves her job and is currently finalising a media studies course.

But what would she have become if not a cop? “If I was not a cop, I would be somewhere hosting a show championing love and relationship matters,” she says.
