You can find almost anything on OLX, the online marketplace where an enterprising Kenyan once tried selling a donkey!

Another managed to offload a coffee plantation in Kiambu valued at Sh12 billion on OLX, which is more famous for phones, electronics, cars and used furniture. But then there is this man who is selling... wait for it... a helicopter for a cool Sh96 million. The man is putting up the twin-engine AS355 chopper with the tag line ‘helicopter on sale for your campaigns!’ meaning he’s targeting politicians out on campaign trails.

The man, Leakey Keiva, told The Nairobian that he chose OLX because of its prominence in the Kenyan online market space.

“I understand the Kenyan market. OLX is very effective at advertising your products. Even without people going to the site, they can hear about items on sale from friends and referrals,” says the businessman who was once the Vehicle Lifestyle Manager at a motor company.

The 29-year-old business computing graduate from Makerere University added that: “I’m targeting the busy election period because I know politicians will be traversing the country. A helicopter is ideal for such campaigns. We are also hoping to attract corporates.”

Keiva has already received a few offers, including from a man whom he reveals is affiliated to Governor William Kabogo. However, he says most of the calls he has been receiving are general enquiries.

“Most of the people who have asked about the helicopter were interested in leasing as opposed to buying. But unfortunately we are not in the chopper hiring business Our helicopters are strictly for sale,” he said.

Keiva is a director at AigleCom and is selling the helicopters on behalf of UK-based HeliAir. According to OLX, the fastest selling items are electronics, vehicles, mobile phones and real estate - with the 3,000-acre piece of coffee plantation in Kiambu which went for Ksh12 billion last year, being the most expensive item sold on OLX so far.
