Did Winners Chapel pastors beat up girl for skipping church?

An Eldoret woman wants leaders from her church investigated for allegedly beating up her daughter.

Lilian Wangare, a worshipper at Winners Chapel in Eldoret, claimed that on July 14, the leaders beat her daughter up after she attended service at another church.

But the church’s leadership has denied the claims.

Wangare, claims that her daughter sustained serious injuries after she was slapped and canned.

“It is unbelievable what the pastors did to my child. She had attended service at another church that morning and when she passed by our church in the afternoon, some of the leaders accosted her demanding to know why she had skipped church,” she said, adding, “ She came back home crying and was bleeding. I reported the matter to cops, but nothing has been done yet.”

The P3 form seen by The Nairobian revealed that the girl had indeed sustained injuries, but is not clear under what circumstances.

However, Winner Chapels church leaders Pastor John Kagai and Elder Ezekiel Rotich denied the allegations claiming that the girl had been caught shoplifting.

“The child is among those notorious for shoplifting. The first time they committed the crime, they were arrested and brought to church and we paid the bill. This time round, we called their parents to come and pay for their children’s mistake,” said Kagai who did not clearly state if they caned the child or not.

Eldoret West OCPD Samuel Mutunga confirmed the case had been reported and investigations were ongoing.
