The father of a student who survived the grisly Kisii road accident that left seven dead on July 2, says he has forgiven his daughter.
Speaking at Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital, Cosmas Nyambane, said that he had no idea his daughter, Mercy Nyambane, was travelling to Kisii for the party.
He claims that a friend called him to inform him that Mercy was among students who had been involved in the ill-fated accident.
Nyambane revealed that when he arrived at the scene of the accident, he found his daughter being carried into a waiting ambulance.
“It was a horrific scene. As a parent, I have no option but to forgive and urge her to continue with her plans to have a wonderful future. She has learnt from her mistakes,” he said.
Nyambane, who owns a construction company, said that his daughter had requested him to send her Sh45, 000 last week, but he promised to send her the money on Friday.
“On Friday, I had the money and wanted to send it to her, but I decided first to wait for her call. At around 8pm, when I received news of the accident, Mercy had not called me,” said Nyambane. He added that he later learnt that Mercy had informed her mother of her plans to travel to Kisii.
Mercy’s mother, Grace Moraa, a businesswoman, said that at around 7pm on Friday night, she tried to call her daughter but she did not pick.
“I thought that may be her phone had gone off and decided to go to bed, hoping she would come home the following morning,” she said.
Moraa narrated how Mercy had requested her to slaughter a chicken for supper since she was in the company of her friends.
“God has a reason why He spared her life. We will praise God and always remember that God is our personal saviour,” said Moraa.
A recovering Mercy told The Nairobian that, “I don’t want to imagine what happened, all I know is that God saved my life. I have big plans that I will have to accomplish. God has given me a second chance,” she said.
She added that, “I am ready to go back to university and complete my studies. These have been the most painful days in my life. It is a miracle that I am alive. I have lost my friends but I know we will meet some day.”
