Monkeys stealing phones from Hurlingham women

Monkeys that have given Hurligham residents sleepless nights for some time now PKEMOI NG'ENOH

A section of Hurlingham residents have been forced to go without sleep for more than 60 nights after tens of monkeys invaded the area.

The Vervet monkeys, which were initially friendly, have suddenly turned rogue. Many are said to be attacking children and sneaking into homes to forage for food.

Part of Hurlingham is covered with overgrown trees, providing a perfect cover which the monkeys have turned into homes away from the Nairobi National Park.

Some residents  told The Nairobian that the monkeys are even snatching mobile phones, mostly from women.

For those who forget to lock their doors and windows, they return back in the evening to find everything upside down. Even shops and nearby eateries have not been spared. Along Rose Avenue, the monkeys can be seen in their tens dashing along electric wire lines and walls, while others fight on rooftops.

“We are no longer safe here. We are worried about the safety of our children who have been attacked by the monkeys. Recently, a child was rescued by a watchman after he was attacked by a monkey,” lamented Mercy Kibe. Mercy adds that adult monkeys appear to disrespect women, even mockingly holding their privates when they see women.
