The Mombasa deputy governor has reportedly been harassed by hired goons for allegedly supporting a politician aligned to the ruling coalition.
Hazel Katana claimed that some county government employees, with instructions from senior county government officials, attempted to take away her official vehicles from her home and later removed furniture from her office following her decision to attend the Malindi function where it was claimed she campaigned for Philip Charo who is Jubilee’s candidate for the Malindi parliamentary seat.
The Malindi seat fell vacant after MP Dan Kazungu was named Mining Cabinet Secretary by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
“I am not aware of the reasons behind the removal of furniture from my office. I cannot go back to my office. How can I go there when all the furniture has been removed?” posed Hazel.
“I am requesting Governor Hassan Joho to intervene and protect Hazel from harassment and humiliation by hooligans,” said Coast Regional Co-ordinator Nelson Marwa during a security briefing in Mombasa.
“This is a polite woman who cannot even kill a fly and is being intimidated for attending the installation of a chief in her rural Jilore village in Malindi who also happens to be her relative,” Marwa added.
