Kirinyaga Governor denies sacking his deputy

County_Nairobi
Kirinyaga Governor Joseph Ndathi(L) and his deputy, Julius Njiiri.

Joseph Ndathi who is the governor of Kirinyaga County has refuted claims that he has sacked his deputy, Julius Njiiri.

Ndathi has asked politicians peddling the rumours to produce the dismissal letter he allegedly wrote to support their claims.

“Njiiri will remain the Deputy Governor until the five-year term ends as clearly stipulated in the Constitution. I am not aware of the purported sacking. Unless he decides to resign if he is not comfortable working with me,” said Ndathi.

He however accused Njiiri of being dishonest and said: “My Deputy Governor is squarely in office and enjoying the benefits. I wonder what criteria I used to sack him as it is being claimed.”

The governor asked Njiiri to be bold enough and tell Kenyans that “he is readying to oppose me come the 2017 general elections and stop beating about the bush.’’

When The Nairobian contacted Njiiri for his comment, he cryptically answered, “We shall know if to cross the bridge when we get there, or even how to approach the crossing.”

Ndathi dismissed as untrue claims that he has sidelined Njiiri and failed to allocate him any duties while his official vehicle has been grounded due to lack of fuel.

“We both have offices with operational budgets voted for by the County Assembly, but if a person runs the vehicle day and night within and outside the county leading to an early exhaustion of the available budget, then where does he want me to get him the extra money?,’’ Ndathi posed, adding that their fight had nothing to do with allocation of duties.
