A former radio journalist has allegedly disowned his twin children born with albinism.
Luke Wasike, a former radio reporter with a local vernacular FM station in Kapenguria is said to have fled his matrimonial home with five other children born without the skin condition, who he sired with his wife, Winrose Simiyu from Likuyani Location.
“Before he fled, he asked me to take my disabled children to their biological father, claiming his family has no history of albinism,” said Winrose who narrated how her husband fled their home after she gave birth to the twins in 2013.
“He is the biological father of my children,” she said, adding that her husband kicked her out of the house, fearing that the children would bring a curse to the family.
“We have been married for the last 12 years. The other five children don’t have this condition. But when the twins were born, things started changing, even though I believe this is a natural occurrence,” she said.
She says that she has been forced to do casual jobs to fend for the children.
When The Nairobian reached Wasike for comment, he said: “She is has been unfaithful, which is why she gave birth to twins with albinism. I don’t know where she got the children from, but in our family, we have such children. She decided to leave on her own, fearing that her sinful ways had been discovered,” he claimed, adding that he didn’t kick her out of their home.
Kakamega County Executive member in charge of Gender, Youth and Sports, Suleiman Sumba, asked men to be responsible for the sake of their children.
