Government should reward me for fighting AIDS - Broke singer Princess Jully

Princess Jully shows awards she won

Princess Jully’s son Makajully, who is struggling to pay his college fees, says, “It breaks my heart that the people my mother helped in the past have abandoned her. I can only pray that God comes to her rescue before it is too late.”

The singer believes God will come to her rescue. “Friends may change or turn away from you, but God will never abandon you,” says the ardent former Legion Maria adherent, now a born-again Christian who swears never to go back to staging shows in clubs.

The singer is now requesting the government to help her out, and reward her efforts for playing a big role in educating Kenyans about HIV/Aids back in the ‘90s.

“When my Dunia Mbaya song debuted, everybody knew of it; even government officials sang to the lyrics of the song. It highlighted the plight of those living with HIV/Aids. The government should at least look out for me and acknowledge my contribution towards fighting the HIV/Aids menace using my music,” says Princes Jully, who was once a member of Nile Divas, consisting of herself, Suzanna Owiyo, Achieng’ Abura and Mercy Myra.

Although a local radio station paid a visit to her home recently with the promise to help her, Jully, who lives with a number of orphaned children, told The Nairobian that no help has come her way so far.
