Three dead in Sunday morning accident on Eastern Bypass

Counties
Three died, and two others were injured in the Eastern Bypass accident.

Three people have died after a Tuktuk they were traveling in was sandwiched between a Nissan and a Toyota Prado.

The Sunday morning accident occurred near Green Valley Estate on Eastern Bypass after a speeding Toyota Prado hit a tuk-tuk which then rammed into the matatu in front of it.

The three deceased are an 11-year-old, a 43-year-old female, and a man aged 29 years.

Two others sustained injuries and were rushed to Kenyatta University Teaching Referral and Research Hospital (KUTTRH).

The bodies were taken to KUTTRH Funeral Home awaiting autopsy.

Ruiru police commander Cecilia Kemboi has exclusively told The Standard that the Prado and Tuktuk were both heading to Ruai.

'The driver, identified as Cosmas Mutembei, has been arrested and he is undergoing Alcoblow tests at Ruiru Police Station," Cecilia said.

Video clips circulating online show Mutembei appearing drunk and unstable shortly after the accident happened.

Cecilia has also noted that there have been numerous accidents along that route where her office has written letters to the Kenya National Highway Authority (KeNHA) on some of the remedies that need to be done to avert more accidents.

The police boss has also appealed to the Kenya National Highway Authority, to erect speed bumps along the busy Eastern bypass to control speeding motorists
