A man who confessed to illegally gaining entry into park to smoke bhang was last week sentenced for two years.
Cosmos Kiprotich was arrested loitering in Lake Nakuru National Park within honey moon hill area on November 12, 9am by game rangers on foot patrol.
The rangers wrote him a charge of trespass in the protected area with intention to commit a crime before presenting him in a Nakuru court last week.
Nakuru Senior Principal Magistrate Liz Gicheha sought to hand him a non-custodial sentence for the misdemeanour after he pleaded guilty to trespass but a pre-sentencing probation report restrained her.
“The accused told probation officers that he had trespassed into the protected area to smoke bhang, which is indicator of his (bad) social behavior,” reads part of the report by Rachael Musyimu.
The court made its verdict: “Given the circumstances and the probation report presented, I sentenced you to two-year imprisonment.”
