A 27-year-old man who is accused of assaulting his 55-year-old mother and calling her a prostitute shocked a Nairobi court when he asked for time to go and sell his personal stuff, before serving his jail term.
Erick Wekesa was also accused of creating disturbance at Umoja II estate in Nairobi at around 7pm on November 12, 2017 by unlawfully threatening to beat his mother Consolata Kanini.
According to the prosecution, Kanini was in the house at about 6.30 pm preparing super when the accused arrived home and started calling her a prostitute and threatening to kill her too.
At some point he is said to have attacked and attempted to strangle her using a belt in a scuffle that attracted neighbours when Kanini raised alarm.
He was restrained and later handed over to police who arraigned in at the Makadara Court where he pleaded guilty of the charges claiming the complainant was not his mother.
A devastated mother told the court that his son was always away from home and could be hanging out with friends who have introduced him to unknown substances.
Wekesa on his side asked for an opportunity to address the court, and requested for time to go and auction his clothes and shoes since he does not need them in jail and was not going to leave them behind.
“Niko na nguo mingi na viatu nataka kuuza kama nitafungwa, mimi ni mtu wa mtaani na watu wengi wananitegemea,” he claimed. The matter will come for mention on February 1.
