Pluto

No comment.

1000 days

The Thousand Days’ War in Colombia was actually 1,130 days long. The Hundred Years’ War between England and France went on for 116 years.

 And there are 1,864 islands in the Thousand Islands archipelago along the US-Canadian border. But the Thirty Years’ War in central Europe is correctly named as it really did last 30 years.

Oceanic mountains

The oceans on Earth do not just house sharks and coral reefs, they have mountains as well. In fact, the longest mountain range on the planet stretches 80,000 km and it’s called the mid-ocean ridge system.

Lightning

While everyone says that lightning doesn’t strike twice in the same spot, it does strike more than once a day on Earth.

In fact, it strikes about 8.6 million times a day. But US park ranger Roy Sullivan (1912-1983) earned his place in the Guinness World Records when he was struck seven times by lightning between 1942 and 1977 and survived all of them, only to take his own life after he was rejected by a lover.

There is a remote jungle in Venezuela where there are lightning strikes almost every night, recording about 100 flashes per minute. The area is called the ‘Lightning capital of the world’.
