Turkish President, Tayyip Erdogan, lies in seventh with around 10 million of the combined global audience of 356 million following heads of state and government, and foreign ministers in 178 countries.

Bill Gates

In 2010, Bill Gates, his wife Mellinda Gates, world-renowned billionaire investor and philanthropist Warren Buffett, created the Giving Pledge. As a result of this undertaking, as of May this year, 158 billionaire individuals or couples have agreed to contribute at least half of their wealth to charity.

Nana Kofi Twumasi-Ankrah

Ghana-born Major Nana Kofi Twumasi-Ankrah, became the first black equerry for the British royal family in history, following his appointment by Queen Elizabeth II.

For the uninitiated, the queen’s equerry is the very dapper chap that stands directly beside the sovereign at official engagements as a personal assistant and senior aide.

Charlottesville, North Carolina

As the world marvels at the breakout of hate-filled messages, physical violence and racist chants in the US city of Charlottesville, North Carolina, let it be known that the city was named after British Queen Charlotte (1744-1818).

 Charlottesville, North Carolina

She is said to have been Britain’s first black queen. Though loved and adored, Queen Charlotte became known as the queen of the enemy when the American War of Independence broke out. Sad.

Henry Rono

Born in Nandi Hills in 1952, long distance legend Henry Rono notched Personal Best times in the Indoor Mile, 3,000 metres, 3,000 metres Steeplechase, Two-Mile, 5,000 metres and 10,000 metres.

 Henry Rono

The indefatigable Rono was record holder for the 3,000m Steeplechase for more than a decade, set the world record for 5,000m twice (1978 and 1981), breaking his own record that he had set in 1978.

He was unbeaten in all Washington University races he entered in 1976, 1977 and 1979. His winning time of 28:07 in 1976 remains the fastest 10,000 metres cross country time in NCAA history. And the rest is history.

Wikipedia says: “Henry Rono peaked in 1978 season when in the span of only 81 days, he broke four world records: 10,000m, the 5,000 metres, the 3,000 metres steeplechase, and the 3,000 metres; an achievement unparalleled in the history of distance running.

He lowered the 10,000 metres record by almost 8 seconds, the 5,000 by 4.5 seconds, the steeplechase by 2.6, and the 3,000 by a full three seconds.

In the same year he also won the 5,000m and the 3,000m steeplechase gold medals at the Commonwealth Games.”

Mohammed Ali

The late Mohammed Ali (1942-2016), beat more champions and top contenders than any heavyweight champion in history.

He defeated heavyweight kings Sonny Liston (twice), Floyd Patterson (twice), Ernie Terrell, Jimmy Ellis, Ken Norton (twice), Joe Frazier (twice), George Forman and Leon Spinks.

 Mohammed Ali

According to a Wikipedia post: “He thrashed light-heavyweight champs Archie Moore and Bob Foster and defeated European heavyweight champions Henry Cooper, Karl Mildenberger, Jürgen Blin, Joe Bugner, Richard Dunn, Jean-Pierre Coopman and Alfredo Evangelista. He defeated British and Commonwealth king Brian London. All of Ali’s defeats were by heavyweight champions: Frazier, Norton, Spinks, Larry Holmes and Trevor Berbick.

Ali also beat undefeated fighters Sonny Banks, Billy Daniels, ‘Rudi Lubbers’ and George Foreman.” Not my words.
