A 22-year-old South African man fell madly in love with his 52-year-old mother-in-law and married her, leaving his wife and their one-year-old son in shock.

The 52-year-old woman began an affair with her son-in-law while on a visit to nurse him. The love affair went on for a while, even after the elderly woman moved back to her home.

The 19-year-old daughter Ntubeko was happily married for more than two years before her mother, Fundi Lesetedi, fell in love with Sifiso, 22, when she visited the young couple in Kwazulu Natal to take care of the ailing son-in-law.

The romance continued to blossom even after Fundi left for her home in Durban with the duo talking for hours over the phone, sources said.

Fundi’s husband worked in a Johannesburg factory, giving enough opportunity for clandestine meet-ups. When her husband discovered the affair, he abandoned her. With nowhere to go, the woman moved into her daughter and son-in-law’s home, dealing the marriage a fatal blow.

Rivalry got out of hand, with the son-in-law chasing away his wife. Sisifo and Fundi married later in a court ceremony on Valentine’s Day last month.

Police confirmed to local pressmen that the newly-weds are staying together. “They have local society’s sanction and no complaint has been filed to allow us to legally intervene in any way,” the police said.
