Kayole pastor gets high on altar wine, starts mumbling gibberish

Holy Communion

A church in Nairobi’s Kayole Estate was a fortnight ago forced to temporarily suspend service after the presiding man of God got high on altar wine and began talking gibberish.

All was okay until it was time to receive Holy Communion. Once the pastor was done serving the parishioners, he gulped all the remaining wine, as he always does. Unfortunately, on this day the content of the chalice was so much that it gave him a high.

The tipsy man of God began mumbling thing that left the shocked faithful in stitches. “Nani hapa anaweza sema anajua Mungu kuniliko. Muache iyo ujanja na ujuaji (Who among you knows God better than I do? You should stop being know-it-alls),” said the pastor as he went on muttering unintelligible stuff.

Shocked and confused members of the church began exchanging knowing looks, wondering if the pastor was okay. “Pastor yuko sawa kweli (Is the pastor alright?),” a churchgoer is said to have loudly wondered, throwing the others into panic.

Disgraceful incident

In a bid to downplay the impact of the incident, the assistant pastor began ranting about how the devil works in many strange ways. He had to shift attention from his tipsy boss by ordering the choir to bless the church with a song.

Concerned ushers whisked away the tipsy man of God. “Riswa! The devil is a lair, let him go rest and sober up in his office,” an usher shouted as he, with the help of his colleagues, hurriedly got the pastor off the lectern.

The assistant pastor profusely apologised for the embarrassing turn of events, urging the members to be patient. He went on to blame and curses the devil for the unfortunate incident. He requested the congregation to remember the pastor in their prayers.
