Second wives: Lie low like envelopes

After last week’s piece in which I told first wives to stop playing naïve and save us the drama where second wives are concerned; I received a lot of flak from first wives. Some told me to stop supporting the ‘husband snatchers’ and call them out for what they really are.

Well, after thinking about it and with a few cups of coffee in my system, I think it is only fair that we address the second wives too.

See, there was a time that every reasonable woman wanted nothing else but a man whom she would call hers and only hers for the rest of her life.

That is why back in the good old days, whenever a married man approached a single woman, it did not matter that he owned a piece of land in Muthaiga estate, drove a flashy car and could literally rain cash on a woman, she would walk away from him and never look back.

 But these days, women have literally become Jezebels and married men are chick magnets.

“Married men know how to treat a woman. And that is why the woman in his life agreed to marry him in the first place and who doesn’t want a man who knows how to treat a woman?” you will hear most so-called ‘husband snatchers’ consoling each other.

But I digress. Dear Lord, we are tired of second wives treating us to unnecessary drama especially whenever a man dies.

See, unless your man newly acquired you as a second wife, and he unfortunately dies in a freak accident or suffers a heart attack before he could introduce you to the world, you have no right whatsoever to come out of the woodwork, claiming how much he dearly loved you and vice versa.

What every woman who agrees to relate with a married man should know, is that she has chosen a path that might lead her to be despised and go unrecognised especially by the man’s first wife and children.

Simply put, the woman should consider herself a home wrecker likely to land in a lot of trouble in the event ‘your’ husband dies.

Therefore, what such a woman needs to do is to put in place her own plans to take care of herself and her children.

Not to wait until a man passes on for her to show up crying like a vagabond, to be incorporated in the funeral arrangements and other properties.

Some might consider this as being too harsh on second wives, but then most of them are literally joy riders who only come onto the scene after man’s first wife’s patience and support have made him successful.
