Former head of the PCEA will launch an inter-denominational church.

Rev David Githii had turned down offers to join churches in the city.

Githii was defrocked on April 4 after he fell out with the leadership of PCEA.

“I want to steer clear of prosperity gospel churches. I want to continue projects I had started when I was in PCEA, but I don’t want to follow in the steps of any of these churches,” Githii said on September 30.

El-Gibbor Evangelism and Intercessory Church will be launched on October 12 at Gitambaya in Ruiru.

“El-Gibbor is Hebrew for Almighty Lord. I would have used Presbyterian if I wished but I decided against it, to avoid being seen as splitting my former church,” he said.

The controversial cleric told The Nairobian that after he was defrocked from PCEA, he declined several offers to lead a number of mainstream and evangelical churches.

“If I run it like my former church, I will close others out, but I want to embrace all without discrimination. I want to fight the spirit of materialism and immorality,” he said.

He claimed he was not after amassing wealth or pulling worshippers from his former church.

“When I was a moderator, people urged me to start a splinter church but I declined. If it is money I want, I can always take up a job as a theology lecturer.
