While Kenyans were busy celebrating Easter holidays in churches and various joints in town, a team of local artistes were at Industrial Area Prisons.

Led by renowned artiste, Jaguar aka Charles Njagua Kanyi, the artistes toured the correctional facility and bought prisoners free lunch and supper before hosting a live show.

“We believe in giving back to the society and this is what we are doing here today. The prisoners in here are our brothers and sisters and making them feel in touch with the outer world is part of their rehabilitation process,” said Jaguar.

Jaguar who also promised to take in one of the inmates called Fredrick Odhiambo alias “Batata” after an exemplary performance on stage said his return to prison was a show of gratitude to the prisoners who featured in his latest hit Kioo that has been topping the charts since its release.

Accompanied by King of Genge, Nonini, gospel artiste Bahati, comedian, Felix Oduor (Jalang’o), the team gave an electrifying performance at the prison’s grounds.

Kimutai Too, officer in charge, Nairobi remand and Allocation prison, welcomed the move of hosting renowned artistes within the prison facility as it helped in the rehabilitation process.

“We believe that within these prison walls, we have a lot of talent and bringing in these renowned artistes to showcase their talents just plays a big part in rehabilitation process of some of the prisoners,” he said.

The event also saw the awarding of some of the best performing officers and inmates who had shown improvement in terms of discipline.

Last December, Jaguar joined Senator Mike Sonko’s gun-surrender campaign to influence those holding illegal firearms in the city to surrender them to police.
