Mum stops daughter's wedding to her 'mpango wa kando'

Residents of Greenfields Estate in Donholm were shocked last week when a married woman and her daughter fought over a man in an incident that attracted a crowd of onlookers.

Estate guards had a hard time cooling down tempers in the afternoon and were forced to call the police who restored order and arrested the two women.

The daughter and mother, however, reached an agreement on their way to the police station and were released. The woman’s husband is unwell and a police case would have worsened his health, a source said.

“She pleaded with everyone not to let her husband know since he has a heart condition. But I wonder why she was cheating on him if she knew he is sickly in the first place,” a close relative to the family disclosed.

Another relative who witnessed the drama confirmed that the man, who is married, had been dating the older woman before wooing the daughter as well.

“This guy has been sleeping with both mother and daughter. Then he proposed to marry the younger woman as a second wife in a civil ceremony at the AG’s chambers,” she added.

It is said the younger woman agreed to be married as a second wife after the man bought her a Toyota Prado.

Rolled and tore each other

The car raised eyebrows but her mother let it slide. But when she heard of the nuptials, she confronted her daughter, urging her not to marry her mpango wa kando since it is a taboo.

“She cautioned her not to marry him but the girl couldn’t hear any of that. That’s when the fight started,” said a witness.

The quarrel behind closed doors between the two soon spilled to the estate streets as mother and daughter rolled and tore viciously into each other.

“The woman was cursing her daughter for snatching and sleeping with her mpango wa kando. A huge crowd cheered on as the two women settled their differences with blows. It was scandalous,” added our source.

Fortunately, the woman’s husband and older son were away and unaware of the illicit love triangle.

When contacted, a security official at the estate refused to be drawn into discussion saying the matter had been resolved.

“We have closed that issue and the people involved don’t want it discussed anymore. The matter has been resolved and put to rest,” she told The Nairobian.

The Nairobian decided not to disclose their identities to shield them from further ridicule and embarrassment.
