10 things you did not know about gospel singer Janet Otieno

Celebs 101

She was a shy person in school who never interacted with fellow students – in particular boys.

Her favourite food is mashed potatoes and fish fillet while she dislikes ‘omena’ with a passion.

She played netball as part of the school team.

She loves to travel besides watching her favorite cartoons Tom and Jerry and Pink Panther and Pals.

She loves classy outfits and ornaments- her favourite being Ginger Merry.

She has no particular color – anything that looks good on her works for her.

She loves taking pictures of herself everywhere she goes.

Her love for gospel music begun way back as pupil at Onyuongo Primary School, Kisumu County.

Upon completing her education Janet moved to Nairobi’s Embakasi estate where she lived with her uncle and secured a part time job at Oriental company within Embakasi – that specialized in making zips, belts and peanuts  and earned enough money to meet her basic needs.

As a member of the church choir at the Redeemed Gospel Church Embakasi, where she fellowshipped under Bishop Abisai for many years. It was there that she met a man by the name   Alfred Otieno who later turned out to be the love of her life, a husband and the father of her children.

The couple have who wedded in 1996 have lived together for 18 years in marriage and have been blessed with two girls Ivy Mich 17, (who cleared Form Four last year), Pridence Bushness, a Form One student at Agah Khan Academy and the last born – eight year-old Travis Gueth  a Class Three pupil at Thika Road Academy.

She describes her marriage life as one in a million, and the best thing that ever happened to her.   “Ours has been a happy and peaceful marriage due to the fact that we have always let God take control of our marriage besides communicating openly, respecting, trusting and loving one another.”

She was once suffered from obesity after giving birth to her second born daughter and hated herself. “I spent time wondering what could have been the problem considering I have been the slender type all my life. After spending sleepless nights drowned in worries as tears ready flew from my eyes – I knew it was time to do something about my overweight which became the talk of town.”

She spent  seven months of proper work out in the gym accompanied with aerobics and a balanced diet to get her shape back.  “With belief in God, hard work, perseverance, patience and self control I was in perfect shape.”

She attributes her ever young good looks to God.
