As Nairobians gathered in churches to offer prayers and lit candles in commemoration of the Westgate attack, the Sukuma Twende Group did it differently.
Sponsored by East FM and Kenya Red Cross, the group planted roses at Karura Forest to commemorate victims who died in the Westgate attack.
Dubbed, the Karura Challenge, the event held on September 21 at Amani Gardens in Karura saw participants plant roses for the 67 people who perished at the mall.
Sandeepa Shah, the group's representative, said the event was also organised to mark the anniversary of one of their own, Mitul Shah, who died in the attack.
"We organised this memorial to remember all the victims. Mitul Shah who was part of Sukuma Twende was very dear to us. We hope and pray that they are all in a better place," said Sandeepa.
"It was a very touching memorial. My family and I participated in all the day's activities, which included cycling, running and walking. We also held prayers," explained Shriwali Wanzah one of the people who attended the event.
