Susan Gichia's enchanting patch of Heaven

Arts and Culture
Gichia's haven, nestled at the foot of Ngong hills.

Holidays are a magical time, a season that nudges us to cherish the most important things in life—spending quality moments with family and friends.

The warmth of these connections provides a unique perspective, offering a sanctuary where joy and laughter intertwine. Discovering a place that exudes festive cheer, where one can revel in the company of loved ones, becomes not just significant but also wonderfully cost-effective.

Welcome to Patch of Heaven, a mere 40km from the heart of Nairobi, offering breathtaking views of the Rift Valley.

While many of us invest in and build upcountry homes, how often do we truly bask in the festive glow of tranquil retreats?

Susan Gichia had a vision in 2004 when she invested in land, and a dream that took shape as Patch of Heaven holiday home in 2014. The Gichia family moved in by 2017, transforming their concept into a reality—a holiday escape from the bustling life of Nairobi to savor the peace and tranquility of Olepolos.

Only a short, festive drive from the city, it boasts a 4-bedroom house where every room is a Christmas miracle, complete with ensuite bathrooms and DSTV in each bedroom.

The entire home offers panoramic views of the Rift Valley, creating a festive atmosphere that extends from the balcony rooms to the living and dining areas.

Immerse yourself in the holiday spirit with locally sourced artefact’s and décor pieces, some collected from the Gichia family’s many festive travels. The warm, inviting space features brown tiles that mimic wooden floors, creating a haven of coziness.

Sliding glass doors unveil breath-taking Olepolos views, while the orange and grey fluffy carpet infuses each room with vibrancy and holiday cheer.

The festive ambiance is further enhanced by brown chairs and colourful cushions, providing a delightful dose of holiday vibrancy. African art pieces from the Gichias’ world travels adorn the walls, offering a striking and exquisite visual feast.

Each room paints a different picture of the holidays, with a swimming pool that overlooks the majestic Great Rift Valley.

As the sun sets, revel in the magical moment at the foot of Ngong hills, where hikes and outdoor activities await. A nearby nature camp beckons guests to experience the thrill of zip-lining, wall climbing, bird watching, and more—a festive adventure for the entire family.

The stone seat and cushions by the fire built with Terrazo stones add an authentic touch, creating a cozy nook for holiday gatherings.

Gichia’s haven, nestled at the foot of Ngong hills, is more than a residence; it’s a holiday miracle. The proximity to the city ensures that the festive spirit is always within reach.
