Today's world is much more aware about mental health challenges than ever before. Living circumstances have not made things easier with the youth bombarded by a myriad of challenges.
It is this topic and how society handles it that the playmakers have been addressing this week with theatre plays in Nakuru.
The Gist is a play that seeks to explores the many challenges facing today's youth. The drama is being staged at the newly refurbished Playmakers Hall and is composed of two plays - The Door and The Truth.
The Door is about two men in a mental health institution who are planning a breakout.
In their minds, they are artistes who tested positive for Covid-19 and are kept away in an isolation camp yet they have a scheduled show in two weeks. Will they make it?
My Truth, another play, explores the lies that married couples tell each other.
"The Gist offers the youth advice on how to approach the tough economic times and what they need to do to avoid being caught on the wrong side of the law," says Kamunya, the play's director.
"Using theatre, the troupe reaches out to many young people in the city and its environs. They are all invited to the show as it will offer them good advice."
