Timeless video games that still hold up today

The gaming industry has outdone itself, coming up with hyper-realistic video games, we cannot forget that some classic titles made our childhoods enjoyable as well as memorable.

Although the visuals of old video games may not be as good as modern titles, they are still enjoyable, and this has led to a rise in interest among gamers. We look at some titles that were worth the while back then.

Super Mario Bros. 3

The greatest vintage games can transport us back to a time when we could unwind while playing with our friends, family, or siblings. Super Mario Bros. 3 does that better than any other classic game. Its music was superb and the images were classic.

Although the gameplay is a bit hard the game is generally fair. You cannot have never played this classic - but if you have not, you are in for a treat since it is as a ton of fun today as it was in the 90s.

Tetris

When we talk about puzzles, Tetris is the ultimate legend. Since '84, Tetris brags as one of the earliest best video games. Its gameplay was quite similar to most of the variations that continue to be released on different platforms.

All you have to do is follow a quite simple gameplay by filling rows of falling blocks of various shapes without leaving any gaps to score points.

There is a multiplayer version of the game where you may compete against other players from around the world to see who will outwit the rest.

Ms. Pac-Man

The game has been with us for over 42 years. The classic retro gained popularity due to its improvements from its predecessor and for having a female protagonist.

Here you gain points by eating pellets and avoiding ghosts from coming into contact with you, which would ultimately see you losing lives.

Super Mario Kart

This 1992 game is a kart racing game featuring single and multiplayer modes. Players take control of eight characters and drive karts around tracks with a Mario franchise theme.

The goal is to finish a race or complete a circuit in the fastest time.

Street Fighter II Turbo

This is a competitive fighting game released by Capcom in 1992, featuring faster playing speed, new special moves, and improved character balance.

It features faster playing speed, allowing players to get into battle quicker and react quicker, with new special moves for all fighters.

Super Mario World

Super Mario World is a 2D side-scrolling platform game in which the player controls Mario or Luigi. It introduces new elements such as flying and float and has 96-level exits.

Players navigate through the A side-scrolling track and an over-world map are the two game screens the player uses to go around the game.

The aim of the world can be reached in a variety of ways thanks to the paths that connect action panels, fortifications, ghost houses, castles, and other map icons.

Contra

This is a video game series featuring run and gun-style shooting games.

The series debuted in February 1987 with the Japanese coin-operated arcade game of the same name, which has since spawned several sequels produced for various platforms.

Contra games are side-scrolling shoot-'em-ups where the player takes control of an armed commando who must fight all sorts of extraterrestrial monsters and other kinds of futuristic menaces.

Disney's Aladdin

Disney's Aladdin is a side-scrolling platform game in which the player controls Aladdin through settings and a storyline based on the namesake film.

Aladdin's primary forms of offence are a scimitar and apples, which can be collected in abundance throughout the game. Health can be restored by collecting blue Genie Hearts, and extra lives can be received by collecting golden icons in the shape of Aladdin's head.

The difficult setting can be adjusted in the main menu.
