Socialite Bad Black tells it all, opens up about her past

Controversial Ugandan socialite Bad Black, real name Shanita Namuyimbwa, says she will in nine years be in a stable relationship.

Opening up about her rocky past during a church service at The Worship House, Black said her ex-fiancée David Greenhalgh was pressured to press charges against her for embezzling over Sh300 million from Daveshen Development Company Ltd, a firm owned by the Briton.

According to Sqoop, Black explained that her flamboyant life in Kampala’s social circuit a decade ago was cut short by Greenhalgh’s then new catch who demanded that she, Black, pays back the amount that she allegedly squandered with her suspected Ugandan lover, Meddie Ssentongo.

“The woman kept putting him on pressure saying I need to return the money and this is what led me to jail,” said the about town glam girl who was convicted by a Uganda court of fraud in 2012 with her co-accused, Ssentongo.

According to Justice Catherine Bamugemereire, the socialite, a co-director of Daveshan, conspired with others to defraud the company between September 2010 and May 2011 to steal $4 million and $ 9million between the months of October 2011 and February 2012.

Found guilty, the lover with whom she squandered the money, was sentenced to 18-months in jail and released in 2013. Black, on the other hand, was sentenced to four years in jail and completed her term in 2016.

Her incarceration at Luzira Prison in Kampala was, however, not without incident. In 2013, she was arrested in Rwanda for jumping bail. This is after she obtained temporary bail to fly abroad and remove silicone breast implants. She claimed her breasts were ‘swollen and the implants needed to be removed’. Black was consequently granted a cash bail of Sh3 million.

But upon gaining her freedom, she reportedly, while en route to India for treatment, flew and ‘partied hard’ in Dubai before surfacing in Kigali, forcing the Kampala City Council Court to issue a warrant for her arrest. With the help of Interpol, Black was eventually picked up at Kigali International Airport and extradited to Uganda.

On release from Luzira Prison, she kept a low profile but made headlines two months ago after she threatened to sue the Ministry of Health and its partners; United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and the World Health Organisation (WHO), over a Covid-19 advert she appeared in.

Through her lawyers, Black claimed that the ministry owes her Sh14.3 million and a further Sh1.4 million in damages for negating on a deal that saw her grace the advert geared towards the sensitization of women, especially those at Uganda’s border points, against coronavirus.

Claims dismissed by ministry officials who said she offered her services for free.
