Nairobi Governor, Mike Sonko Mbuvi has heeded to public pressure and embarked on a 16-week intense workout program that will enable him to get rid of his ‘kitambi’. Sharing his fitness plans with his fans on social media, the politician promised to get a defined six pack come December. “Before this year ends I have to get a 6 pack. After a busy weekend, I woke up on Monday feeling really good. Today marks my first day in the gym due to public demand I’m getting rid of this big stomach,” he said.

The Governor advised individuals stuck at home due to the Corona Virus pandemic to create time and workout and remain physically active. “Since the outbreak of the coronavirus most people have been spending most of their time indoors leading to less physical activity. I would however advise young people especially men to take some time and do some physical activities to remain physically fit,” he added.

It seems Sonko’s workout session started off on a good note as he has promised to incorporate physical exercise in his everyday routine and work tirelessly toward getting his six pack. “Ata mimi leo I've decided this will be my routine every day because all our dreams can come true if we have the courage to pursue them," Sonko advised.

Fit politicians

With Sonko’s new fitness journey, the Governor has joined the growing list of politicians sweating off any unwanted weight in the gym. Mombasa Governor, Ali Hassan Joho tops the list of pro fitness politicians and often records himself in the gym getting his workouts in as a way to encourage others to embrace a healthy lifestyle.

He broke the internet not too long ago after he posted a video showing off his impressive boxing skills. Joho takes his workouts very seriously and even has a huge gym in his house equipped with all the necessary tools needed to work out.

Following in Joho’s footsteps is his good friend, Mvita Member of Parliament, Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir who looks fitter than a fiddle after shedding off more than 40kgs over a period of two years, all thanks to consistent workouts. According to the MP, the eye-opening moment for him was when he was denied access to skydive while on a vacation in Dubai due to his weight. The guides explained that because he was overweight he was likely to defy gravity and injure himself.

“It hit me because when I went on the weighing scale (because they had to get all these details) they said I was going to defy gravity,” he recalled. Shariff Nassir maintains that his tremendous weight loss is all because of his hard work in the gym and proper diet rubbishing rumors of undergoing surgery.

“I never used any drugs to cut weight or operations. There is no product that can be able to outsmart your mind and your own self-determination,” Sharrif said in a recent TV interview.
