Prime Minister Raila Odinga praised singing star Jua Cali among other celebrities during a live web TV interactive platform owned by the premier.

Terming the genge star as one of the many unsung Kenyan heroes, the PM said local stars should be recognised for their role in society.

The PM, who made the sentiments when he hosted the celebrated last Thursday during the talk2raila weekly interactive show, paid tribute to other youthful celebrities among them Kenyan international football stars Victor Mugubi, Dennis Oliech and Mac Donald Mariga as well as 800 metres Olympic record holder David Rudisha.

“It is important that we remember and celebrate such leaders, too. These are our unsung heroes,” he said.

“We are respected in literature, in visual arts and in performing arts. We are a continental powerhouse in education and indeed in academia and scholarship,” he added.

The session focused on remembering Kenya’s heroes and heroines, with the PM recognising the role played by artistes ahead of Saturday’s Hero’s Day during which he applauded the celebrities.

“Kenya has produced many heroes, outside the area of political leadership and government. We should honour them,” Raila noted.

The PM uses the talk2raila platform to interact with Kenyans from all over world.

Other celebrities that have featured in talk2raila are Choku, Redsan, Octopizzo, Jaguar, Prezzo and the Tahidi High crew.
