Koffi Olomide barred from entering Zambia over criminal charges

African News

Congolese rhumba musician Koffi Olomide has been barred from entering Zambia.

Koffi, real name Antoine Christophe Agbepa Mumba was denied access into the country over criminal charges he faces not only in the Southern African nation, but also France.

The charges levelled against him include allegations of assaulting a Zambian photojournalist during a previous tour.

He has also been accused of kidnapping, sexually assaulting his dancers and employing them despite not having valid work permits in France.

Arrest warning

The 62-year-old singer who was scheduled to perform at two shows in Zambia had earlier described the country as his “second home” and that he would like to perform in the country before “I die.”

However, on Saturday, the French embassy in Zambia called for his arrest with the envoy threatening to involve Interpol in arresting Koffi.

Shortly after landing at the JKIA in 2016, he caught on camera physically assaulting a female.

The dancer reportedly had a disagreement with Koffi’s wife Cindy, prompting him to throw a kung fu-like- kick at her.

He was deported from the country following public outcry.

Courting controversy

Koffi is not new to controversy as in 2012, his producer, Diego Lubakihe accused him of assault over Sh370,000 and the singer was given a three-month suspended prison sentence.

During a concert in Kinshasa, 2008, he was accused of kicking a camera man following disagreement over recording rights.
