
Nigerian movie star, Desmond Elliot, has won his bid to represent the people of Surulere constituency as their Member of Parliament. Desmond defeated his close contender, Bayo Smith, of Peoples Democratic Party.
Desmond was vying under the banner of All Progressive Congress Party.
The movie star on Saturday, April 11 poll, garnered 23,141 votes against Bayo’s 12,546 to be declared the winner.
According to a Nigerian online magazine, The Independent National Electoral Commission Returning Officer, Dr Mariam Quadri, made the declaration at the Surulere Collation Centre. “That Desmond Olusola Elliot of APC having satisfied the requirements of the law and scored the highest number of votes is hereby declared winner and is returned elected,” Quadri said.
In a photo posted on twitter by one of his jubilant supporters, Desmond was seen being bathed with drinks and water to celebrate his victory.
In a post on his social media pages, the 41-year-old expressed gratitude to his supporters saying, “Thank you to all who made it possible. The battle of who wins is over. Let’s begin the battle of how to bless our people and our nation. We must not disappoint our people.”
Desmond has featured in over 200 Nigerian films, and is a well-known actor in Kenya.
