A student has set out on a 25-kilometre trek in search of financial support to join university.

Jane Nyomenda Ndemo, 18, of Kegogi village in Marani sub-County in Kisii County said she is yet to get help two weeks to joining university.

Her efforts landed her at the Standard Group offices in Kisii where she explained that her family cannot afford to sponsor her studies.

She sat for her Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education examination at Samolel Secondary School in Kericho and scored a grade of C+.

She was admitted to the Faculty of Education at Tom Mboya University in Homa Bay County where she is expected to report by September 5.

"I have achieved part of my academic goals through the help of relatives. However, they too have children. Two of my aunts took me through primary and secondary education," she said.

Nyomenda said: "Despite the financial challenges I am determined to excel in my academic journey."

"I pray that someone supports us and have our firstborn daughter join university," her mother, Florence Kemuma said.
