Knec Chief Executive Officer Joseph Kivilu

NAIROBI: Kenya National Examinations Council (Knec) Chief Executive Officer Joseph Kivilu has been suspended indefinitely.

Mr Kivilu was suspended yesterday alongside eight senior managers who had been asked to record statements with the police over examination irregularities.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery instructed Kivilu, the deputy secretaries for Examinations and Security Ambia Noor and Maundu Matenzewa and Principal Examination Secretary Thomas McKenzie to record statements last week.

Others are Deputy Secretary in charge of Reprographics Sarah Majani, Senior Deputy Secretary Bobby Nyagah, Senior Deputy Secretary in charge of ICT Geoffrey Gitogo, Principal Supply Chain Manager Michael Ndua and Deputy Secretary Richard Mwangangi.

The Knec board yesterday suspended all of them. The decision was arrived at during the first meeting of the new board chaired by George Magoha.

Kivilu yesterday said the board instructed him to hand over to David Gachanja, the acting director general of Administration and Human Resource. "I was issued with a suspension letter some minutes after 1pm," he said. Sources told The Standard that the suspension letters indicated that the officers shall stand suspended "until the board communicates with them".
