New agency formed to run schools' co-curricular activities

The Directorate of Quality and Standards has been transformed into a fully fledged council occasioning the transfer of all co-curricular activities into the State Department of Education.

Education Secretary Leah Rotich said the Government was committed more than ever before in moulding holistic children by supporting activities such as drama and music in schools and colleges.

According to Ms Rotich, the drama festival in particular provides a forum for tapping, nurturing and exploiting the rich potential of the Kenyan youth.

“The festival at its apex brings on board the entire State. We have all witnessed the President’s appreciation of the winners of the festival in the last two years,” she said during a one-day workshop for hundreds of national adjudicators at a Nairobi hotel Sunday.

The drama festivals start this week at zonals, with participants contesting for the ultimate slot at the nationals that will be held from April 6-18.
