Youth urged to join Saccos to boost their livelihood

Youth have been urged to join Saccos for the sake of economic empowerment.

Moko Sacco chief executive Josephine Kanyambu said that setting up investments was key to addressing joblessness in the country. 

Kanyambu regretted that majority of the youth, particularly in Machakos County, who had no means of survival, could find their way through the Sacco which could help shape their lives. 

Speaking during the Sacco's Annual General Meeting in Machakos town, the CEO said that due to the current economic situation, many Saccos had derived a soft mechanism on how the jobless Kenyan youth could thrive. 

"Moko Sacco which is an affiliate of the giant Machakos Co-operative Union, has since lifted lives of many Kenyans in and outside its jurisdiction," she added.

Kanyambu said the Sacco was focused on rebuilding member deposits and liquidity through enhanced savings mobilisation and attractive products.

The Sacco's chairperson, Mary Munyoli, said arrangements were in process to digitise all services in efforts to reduce manual processing that consumes time.

Munyoli called on people of all walks of life including women groups to join the Machakos empowerment organisations.

She revealed that the Sacco was in the process of achieving SASRA licensing for FOSA operations through full regulatory compliance.

The Machakos county co-operative director Ann Masai, called on rural women groups join the Sacco.

She urged Saccos to ensure compliance with legal requirements.

The Saccos' umbrella body and partner 'Machakos Co-operative Union' chief executive officer Martin Malila, said the union, being the 'brain child' of the Sacco is championing for its growth.

He said the Sacco had opened doors for internal and external membership.
