Governor Mutua sends home 'lazy' senior health workers

Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua

Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has suspended three senior health officers at the Kathiani Sub-County Hospital over alleged laziness and negligence of duty.

The governor made an impromptu tour of the hospital Thursday, sending staff at the medical facility into panic and confusion. The surprise visit follows numerous complaints by residents over poor services at the hospital.

Warning that he will not condone errant workers, Mr Mutua suspended Medical Superintended Jackline Mirera, Administrator Alice Nyamai and Community Oral Health Officer Dorcas Wanza.

''This message should reach all other workers in different ministries and departments in my government. No one will be spared if found not delivering,'' he warned.

The governor said he would not let lazy and irresponsible workers jeopardise his government's good work.

''Every worker must deliver without supervision, failure to which they will be sent packing,'' he said.

Patients praised the move, saying it was long overdue.

''We are told to buy medicine at private clinics since the facility has no stock,'' said a patient who declined to be named.

Another said the quality of service they received at the hospital was below standard as the workers seemed unmotivated.
