Sh240 million facilities to upgrade hospital

Embu; Kenya: Embu County Government has embarked on the construction of a state of the art health complex to host a High Dependency Unit (HDU), an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and associated facilities at Embu Level Five Hospital.

The facilities estimated to cost Sh240 million are meant to elevate the hospital into a teaching and referral status and promote provision of medical services.

Speaking at a ground-breaking ceremony held at the hospital grounds yesterday, Governor Martin Wambora said the construction would take one year to be completed: “The presence of the theatre and ICU in Embu will not only benefit Embu, but also neighbouring counties like Kirinyaga, Kitui and Tharaka Nithi.”

Health Executive Committee Member Pauline Njagi, said the construction of the building complex had stalled for 30 years.

Embu deputy speaker Ibrahim Swaleh, and the chairperson of the Health Services Committee Agatha Muthoni, pressed on the need to handle health issues promptly. The county government has launched Sh96million water projects for domestic and irrigation purposes in the county
