Police are yet to make any arrest following the daring daylight robbery at the home of retired Senior Assistant Inspector General Renson Lolmodooni at Kitengela Police Sacco Estate on August 16, 2026.
The estate, with its slogan "Serene and Secure," was infiltrated by thugs who made off with boxes of money. Police bosses in the area refused to comment, referring inquiries to police headquarters.
According to police reports and witness accounts, the suspected gang gained access to the upscale residential estate, which houses both serving and retired police officers, by disguising themselves as worshippers heading to a prayer meeting.
Two men and two women arrived at the estate's main gate around midday and told security personnel they were members of a local church, a cover that did not raise any red flags at the time .
The estate, bought by Police Sacco in the 2000s, is considered one of the most secure residential communities in Kitengela, perhaps holding the highest concentration of licensed gun holders in the rapidly growing town .
Once inside, the criminals used cutting tools to force their way into Lolmodooni's residence. The former GSU Commander retired from the position in June 2025 after a two-year tenure.
The robbery took a violent turn as the gang attempted to flee. A security guard moved to block their vehicle at the main gate after an alarm was raised. Witnesses say one of suspects, described as an unmasked, average-build, middle-aged man, attacking the guard with punches and kicks before striking him on the head with a stick .
Another suspect was seen running from the getaway car, which was parked a few metres from the main gate, to assist his accomplice. Together, they overpowered the guard and sped off towards Isinya along the Namanga Highway .
A message shared in the estate's security WhatsApp group described the group as four armed men and two women who entered through deception before stealing the cash .
Neighbours revealed that Sh1,000 notes were found scattered along 5th Road within the estate, with witnesses adding that the fleeing suspects threw banknotes at guards and bystanders during their escape, apparently to create chaos and distract onlookers.
One of the vehicles used in the raid was later found abandoned in Isinya town, approximately 21 kilometres from the estate. Police recovered several vehicle registration plates, additional cash, and a pistol believed to belong to the former officer .
Despite the accounts from neighbours and security personnel, Lolmodooni disputed reports that money was taken from his home.
"There was an attempted robbery at my place. Neighbours realised what was happening and raised the alarm. No money was stolen. We do not keep cash at home. That is just a rumour," he said .
However, police reports and witness accounts confirm that the robbers made away with boxes of cash. CCTV footage recovered from the estate has provided investigators with crucial evidence.
