Sleepwalking 7-year-old boy falls straight out of bedroom window yet he doesn’t wake

New Zealand: A 7-year-old boy had a lucky escape after he sleepwalked his way straight out of bedroom window.

McCauley Stratford fell 13ft and broke his leg - but it could have been so much worse.

What’s even more remarkable that neither the fall nor the leg break woke him up, the New Zealand Herald reports.

Instead he landed on the gravel drive of his home in Foxton, New Zealand, hauled himself into someone else’s house more than 300ft away, crawled into a stranger’s bed - and he was asleep the whole time.

Dad Rhys and wife Gemma checked on McCauley - the third of their six children, and who started sleep walking a year ago - at around 10pm Friday.

When they found he wasn’t there, the Herald reports, an eight hour police search was sparked. The fire service, neighbours, ambulance and a specialist rescue team were all involved.

"It was absolutely devastating," Rhys said. "You put your boy to bed and check on him and he's not there."

He was finally found when the boy whose bed he crawled into told his aunt there was a stranger in there with him.

The Stratfords were finally reunited at 5am. Rhys told the paper that latches would be going on the window the same day.
