Cannibal ex-fiancé stabs lover to death then eats her brain, heart and lungs

Utah, USA: A convicted killer out on bail allegedly broke into his ex-fiancée’s house and stabbed her to death - before eating her heart, lungs and brain.

Police had been called to Tammy Jo Blanton’s home in Jeffersonville, Indiana, during the early hours of Thursday morning following reports her former boyfriend Joseph Oberhansley was trying to get in.

After speaking to him police say he left quietly.

However several hours later Oberhansley is alleged to have returned before carrying out the brutal attack.

It was only when a concerned colleague of Blanton’s called 911 after she failed to turn up to work did police find her mutiliated body under a tarpaulin in the bath.

According to court papers, investigators later found a "plate with what appeared to be skull bone and blood" on it as well as a pan and pair of tongs with blood on the handles.

He has since been charged with murder, abuse of a corpse and breaking and entering.

"After you've been prosecuting for so long, you think you've seen everything," Prosecutor Steve Stewart said.

"I've never seen this."

Oberhansley, who has a previous conviction for manslaughter in Utah, was arrested Thursday after police discovered him at the house.

According to a police report he had a fresh cut across his knuckles which led cops to become suspicious.

Following a search they found the 33-year-old had a fold up knife in his back pocket covered in hair and blood.

As an officer then walked through the house calling Blanton's name her found her body the bathroom.

Her skull had apparently been crushed, an affidavit said.

An autopsy revealed the 46-year-old died of multiple blows to the head, neck and torso, and that parts of her heart, lungs and brain were missing.

Police said Oberhansley confessed to removing several organs before cooking them.

He also ate some body parts raw.

However when he appeared before Judge Vicki Carmichael on Monday, Oberhansley said he could not have committed the crimes.

When the charges were read out he said: ”That's not my name. Obviously you've got the wrong guy."

He claimed his name was "Zeus Brown" adding he did not know how old he is and whether he is a US citizen.

Oberhansley has a long criminal history dating back to at least 2000 when he was convicted of manslaughter and attempted murder for killing his then-girlfriend Sabrina Elder, 17, and critically wounding his mother.

Just days before the killing, the teenager had given birth to his child.

In July, Oberhansley was arrested following erratic driving that sparked a slow-speed police chase.

Blanton had paid a £680 bond to secure his release.

"I'm his fiancée," she said in court on July 23 before posting the bond and allowing him to remain free.
