Rogue customer kicked out of an eatery on River Road

NAIROBI, KENYA: A man had to abandon his meal at an eatery on River Road, Nairobi, after he was unceremoniously thrown out when ‘management’ discovered he had carried his own food, and had only sought shelter.

The man, who was a regular customer at the eatery, had to endure the embarrassing moment as a burly and overzealous chef kicked him out for contravening rules and regulations.

“These are things the management frowns upon. Get out! Watu sampuli hii ndio mnaaribia wengine siku (you are the kind of people who like ruining other peoples’ days),” yelled the beefy chef as he dragged him by the collar.

The man in question had made a habit of getting into the hotel with packed meals; something the ‘management’ discourages, and would only buy the cheapest food on the menu before unpacking his.

As usual, he strolled into the eatery and perched on a seat at a table in the furthest corner, before he made an order for chai ndogo (a small cup of tea). The waiters were not amused by the fact that he kept insisting that all he needed was chai ndogo and nothing else. Even after the waiter insisted that he must sell him something else.

Chewing tea

Minutes later, the waiter who had served him kept an eye on him and  noticed that he was chewing endlessly. Curious to know why one would be chewing tea, the waiter discreetly went around the room and discovered the customer had a loaf of bread tucked on his lap.

The waiter raised his voice sharply; ridiculing the customer for thinking he is smarter than everyone.

“Yani unakuja hapa na chakula kutoka nje na unajua hairuhusiwi. Kwanza umeingia apa na boflo na hapo tuko na mikate mingi sana (You can dare bring in here foodstuff from outside, yet you know clearly we don’t allow that, and if anything we also sell bread)?” the waiter raised his voice to the embarrassed customer.

The customer, by then experiencing a mixture of shock and embarrassment, tried to hide the loaf of bread to no avail.  A built chef had arrived on the scene and roughed him up before kicking him out.

Hissed

“I am here sweating to make food for you people and here you are bringing food from outside,” hissed the burly chef, who had been attracted by the ensuing noise.

The gentleman, clearly lacking any explanation began sweating and mumbling about how expensive food was in the hotel.

“Hii chai ndio naweza kununua pekee (I can only afford your tea),” he said. “So nanunua mkate imelala kwa bakery hapo nje and order the tea (This bread I am munching is cheap because I buy the stale ones),” whined the customer.

Having been a loyal customer for nearly a year, the chef felt the customer had taken them for a ride for too long. While kicking him out, the chef ransacked his pocket and took the poor man’s Sh200 to teach him a lesson.

The customer has never been seen since the incident.
