Matiang’i, Juma lead Kenyan delegation for bilateral talks in USA

Two Cabinet secretaries are currently in the US to lead bilateral talks between Kenya and Washington DC.

Interior CS Fred Matiang’i and Monica Juma of Foreign Affairs are leading the Kenyan delegation to the inaugural Bilateral Strategic Dialogue (BSD).

The meeting, to take place on May 7 and 8, will focus on five main areas Government officials say will benefit Kenya.

The BSD was established during the meeting between President Uhuru Kenyatta and President Donald Trump in Washington on August 27, last year, which elevated the Kenya-US relations to a strategic partnership.

Signing of contracts

Pillars the talks will centre on are Economic Prosperity, Trade and Investment, Defence Cooperation, Democracy and Governance and Multilateral and Regional Issues.

“Under the Economic Prosperity and Trade and Investment pillar, Kenya and the US aim to step up collaboration in growing their economies through generating jobs and building technical capacity,” Dr Juma said.

US Ambassador to Kenya Kyle McCarter said the talks would culminate in the signing of contracts between the two countries for various projects.

This will include signing of a contract for construction of a Nairobi-Mombasa superhighway to ease transportation of goods.
