WHY KENYA IS NOT READY FOR THE GAY AGENDA

Kenya just like any other African society prides in itself in the rich African heritage and cultural values that have been deeply rooted in ignorance in the name of the rule of the public opinion and interest. Just who are the people? And within what parameters? Public interest is in Kenya has been clothed in a mere cloak in the name of democratic self- rule. Homophobia in itself is not a bother for many; the concept of hostile reception towards members of the gay community has been characterized with pampered perceptions of a few Kenyans. For most Kenyans it is in the least of their concern whether one is gay or not, an ideal that has been venomously poisoned by the few individuals and institutions such as the Penal Code Act which profoundly criminalizes same sex liaisons.

The gay agenda in Kenya has been left at the mercies of the law and opinionated individuals who have refused to embrace the dynamics of culture in a modern world. With a well-orchestrated homophobia within the mind of most Kenyans, persons of the gay community have in the past years been dehumanized, tortured and brutally treated by members of the public and the police. What then is the right to human dignity as enshrined in the constitution? What is the essence of such a provision? The Kenyan legislative framework has been described as romantic with less or no effect at all. The Kenyan parliament will pass laws on a vast majority of issues but will fail to give effect to simple provisions of the constitution let alone decriminalize homosexuality.
